Diggers Rest Primary School is situated in a semi-rural community with an enrolment of just over 100 students. The school was relocated and rebuilt in 1990 and its unique design allows the school to maintain a modern, new feel.
The school's pupose is to provide a caring and challenging learning environment that allows children to be literate, numerate and well connected with the school and community. |
| The school exudes a family atmosphere, where all school community members know and care for each other.
The school has fantastic resources with an art room, library, multi-purpose room, reading recovery room, computer technology, oval, four sets of play equipment and a wide variety of sports facilities. |
|
In 2010, there will be 8 teaching staff and 5 grades. Typically the school features small class sizes, with the focus very much on literacy and numeracy. The school provides a broad curriculum based upon VELS, complemented by a range of support programs. A well accepted discipline and welfare policy is in place and the school uses various structured wellbeing programs.
The school consistently promotes positive values and instils in children the correlation between hard work and achievement.

Staff have been busy recently preparing their curriculum programs for the school year.
During term 1 the school will have a focus on Harry Houdini. Houdini made the first powered flight in Australia on March 18 1910, just on 100 years ago. The Diggers Rest community has planned many activities to celebrate this significant event.

| Over the holidays much work has been done to improve the school, mostly using funding provided through the National School Pride initiative. In addition to work done previously, the front of the school has been landscaped and had new lighting installed and all the children’s toilet cisterns have been replaced with dual flush models. Anthony, our maintenance man, has been busy painting and mowing to have the school in tip top shape for the start of the school year. Our new fitness track is ready to go now that Graeme has spread the softfall under each of the stations. |

This year the canteen will be opening again and operating three days a week – Monday, Wednesday and Friday beginning on Monday February 8th.
Parents’ Club will again be operating in 2010 and is always looking for new members. Parents’ Club makes a significant contribution to the school – the more members the greater the contribution.
We are very proud of our school website which is one of the most informative and interactive school website in Victoria. Please continue to visit as the website is regularly update. Encourage your children to visit also and log onto the individual grade websites where they will be directed to many educational websites.
